When you go to work, you probably do not give much thought to what will happen if you suffer an injury. While you may not assume that you will get hurt at some point, you may find it beneficial to learn more about what to expect if you do suffer injuries while on the clock. Workplace injuries are a valid reason to file a workers’ compensation claim, and it will be helpful for you to know what types of support you can expect.

The intent of workers’ compensation benefits is to provide injured Missouri workers with help as they strive to get back on their feet after an accident in the workplace. The specific types of benefits available to you depend on the nature of your injuries, the expected length of your recovery and other factors. Knowing the benefits available to you may be an important factor in helping you secure the support you need and deserve.

The benefits you should seek

After a workplace accident, you may need financial support and other types of help as you work on your recovery and eventually return to work. While every case is different, the specific types of support that could be available to you include the following:

  • Medical coverage — Workers’ compensation benefits often cover the medical needs you may have as a result of your work accident. This includes medical bills, physical therapy, long-term care and more.
  • Rehabilitation — Recovery from a work accident is an individual and personal process. Your workers’ comp benefits may cover what you need for a reasonably full recovery after a work accident.
  • Disability — Workers’ compensation insurance provides some permanent or temporary disability benefits. This will replace a portion of wages lost by the disabled employee.
  • Death — In the event that an employee suffers a fatal injury during a work accident, family members left behind could be eligible for death benefits through a workers’ compensation claim.

You will benefit from an explanation of the benefits available to you through your workers’ compensation claim. It is helpful to remember that insurance providers do not always have your best interests in mind, and you may have to fight for the full amount of benefits you need and deserve. After a work accident, it is in your interests to seek an understanding of the steps you need to take for your recovery and post-accident needs.
